The Abbey is a world-famous gay bar and club, Founded by David Cooley, an Ohioan in 1991. From its church-like appearance and uniquely crafted stained glass windows, it got its name the “Abbey.” It is located in West Hollywood California, just off Santa Monica and next to the West Hollywood Park. Originally, the Abbey was an old-fashioned coffee shop, and over the past 25 years, the Abbey has progressively evolved from a cafe to a nightclub & bar with five expansions.
The Abbey is arguably the best gay club and LGTB (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community center in California. The Abbey functions actively as a multipurpose hall, running during the day as a restaurant and at night as a bar. The Abbey’s beautiful aesthetic structure embodies a large collection of lounges, bountiful cabanas and provides unlimited event options for special gatherings, from small cocktail parties to gala dinners. The Abbey’s large hall space can accommodate more than 1000 guests and is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and a magnificent sound system that reverberates through the hall.
Due to its unique programs (different fun activities for different nights), the Abbey outstands every other gay bar in Los Angeles. It doesn’t tolerate room for any form of discrimination; the Abbey is a venue that accommodates both straight and gay people irrespective of sexual orientation and warmly welcomes people who visit to sightsee or grab a drink.
The Abbey is famous for its ten-ounce martini, its large interior dance floor, delicious cuisine prepared by some world-class chefs, specialty cocktails and the Hollywood Gay Walk of Fame. The Abbey has been graced with celebrity appearances like Elizabeth Taylor, hence the name “Elizabeth Taylor’s favorite pub,” Lady Gaga, and Christina Aguilera to mention a few. The Abbey has also been recognized with many accolades including MTV LOGO Best Bar in the World, LA Weekly’s Best Gay Bar, Best Bar for Day Drinking and Best Dance Club, Timeout’s Best Gay Bar and Four square’s Most Popular Bar in California.
