About West Hollywood
Also referred to as ‘WeHo’, this trendy and high energy nightlife city sits on Santa Monica Blvd and is dazzled by rainbow flags and is a home to gay bars, dance clubs, shops and buzz worthy restaurants.
Going back in history, let’s start with 1780 when the “Sunset Strip” became the major connecting road for El Pueblo de Los Angeles, and all ranches westward to the Pacific Ocean. The land had many different owners during the next 100 years and became known as “La Brea” and “Plummer” and later, most of the area was called Rancho La Brea and was owned by the Henry Hancock Family.
During the final decade years of the 19th century, West Hollyood was developed and known as the town of Sherman and became known as the loosely regulated, liquor-friendly place for eccentric people wary of government interference. In 1925, although still in governance of Los Angeles County, West Hollywood was adopted and elected to not become a part of the city of Los Angeles.
During the 1960s, the Sunset Strip was transformed during the hippie movement which brought thriving music and a hippie culture to the area and young people started to flock to West Hollywood.
West Hollywood incorporated in 1984 and is home to the famous Sunset Strip. It’s one of the most prominent gay villages in the United States.
There are so many adorable tree-lined and pristine residential streets and a plethora of condo and apartment buildings to choose from if you are looking to relocate there.
There are many places to eat and drink and the town holds the biggest gay celebration and parade every year for gay pride. The city is home to the famous Abbey, House of Blues, Soho house, Comedy Store and so much more.
There is no doubt that everyone should experience this lively city at least once and if you can live there, even better as the walkability is amazing and you could literally never have to leave the city as everything is there conveniently.
Also, if you have dogs, it’s a super dog friendly place that even allows your pup to dine with you, water bowls are placed throughout the city and they even have a law that dogs are people so don’t leave them in hot cars. West Hollywood is definitely on my list of favorites.
