About Valley Glen
In 2008, it was estimated to have a population of 62, 846 and is about 4.81 square miles and sits between Van Nuys and North Hollywood.
Valley Glen is known for fostering community pride, the VGNA (Valley Glen Neighborhood Association) promotes community beautification, including an annual clean-up day. They also are advocates of public safety which includes working with the LAPD and LAFD. They deal with Land use issues which includes commercial and residential developments and amongst other things, public schools and their programs like adopt-a-family are something they take pride in. Basically, Valley Glen is very outspoken and active about any issue that deals with quality of life in their community.
This area became a major draw for those who worked for studios over the hill in the major studios. By the 1930’s this migration of the entertainment industry had increased the Valley’s diversity.
Los Angeles Valley College was founded in 1949 in Van Nuys, but moved to Valley Glen in 1951 to provide higher education opportunities for it’s residents. This kind of created a new center of gravity for the area and and in 1968 the second phase of the Hollywood freeway kind of separated this region from North Hollywood. This is when they named this neighborhood Valley Glen.
As of today, the neighborhood has really started to take off as a popular area to live. One of the highlights is the Great Wall of Los Angeles which is a 2,700 ft long mural that depicts Scenes of California history.
The LAVA is a true community college that boasts art galleries, theaters and museums that are dedicated to the history of the valley. It’s also next to NOHO which is now a retail mega development which will make living there more convenient.
They are turning everything old to renovated and re-leased and it’s really paying off.
