About South Boston Waterfront

Labeled as one of the most exciting neighborhoods in Boston, South Boston Waterfront, or seaport, was originally a tidal marsh.  Boston has many areas landfilled and this region happened to be initiated in 1833. Due to all of the land, piers, channels and wharfs that were added to the ports facilities, in the late 1880s the sea port became a busting industrial center.

As it started out with parking only, into the 21st century redevelopment in the area occurred that brought residential areas, offices and tourism activities to the waterfront.

Now the area has 78 restaurants, 8 hotels and it continues to grow and considered a massive renaissance with the explosion in recent years in real estate.  It’s considered the hottest, fastest-growing real estate market in the country. The Waterfont construction boom earned the area it’s name of the “Innovation District” and is now home to several office towers, residential buildings and “innovation labs” that are either proposed or under construction.

One of the most sought after waterfront sites is Boston Fan’s Pier and is a catalyst of the revitalization of south bostons waterfont.

South Boston Waterfront has seen an increase in nightlife around the neighborhood that parking as become scarce. In response they expanded a resident only parking to seven days a week from four.

GE announced it was going to move it’s corporate headquarters there and would start  arriving in 2016 and be complete by 2018 which will result in being the largest trading company based in Massachusetts.

The current restaurants, museums, art galleries, boat activities and entertainment generates a lot of well-deserved buzz for the Seaport.  There is so much to do and see to keep you really busy. It has a harborwalk that people use to walk along the harbor, the seaport that has all of the waterfront restaurants and bars, it even has a cruise port that welcomes cruise passengers from April to November.

South Boston Waterfront is a super fun place to visit and should definitely be on your to do list.  Living there seems to be well liked as well.
