About Burbank

This charming yet internationally recognized Southern California city was named after David Burbank, a New Hampshire dentist who established a sheep ranch here in 1867. Located in Los Angeles County, about 12 miles away from downtown Los Angeles, the city had a population of 103,340 as of the 2010 census – 99 years after the then 500 citizens of Burbank approved incorporation in 1911.

Known as the “Media Capital of the World,” Burbank is home to such major studios as The Walt Disney Company, ABC Television, Warner Bros Entertainment, Nickelodeon, The Burbank Studios (made famous by The Tonight Show), Cartoon Network and more.

Burbank has two distinct areas – downtown, located in the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains (there is a restaurant that sits in the mountains that overlooks all of Burbank, pretty awesome place to dine) and the flats, where residential neighborhoods are intertwined with film and television studios and a world-class equestrian center!

The equestrian center is located right at the edge of Burbank, Glendale and Griffith Park and is bordered by a residential neighborhood known as the Burbank Rancho. Homeowners in the Rancho are allowed to have horses living in their backyards and you’re as likely to see a horse pull out of a driveway as a car!

Overlooking Burbank and Griffith Park, at the base of the Hollywood Hills, is a huge area that appears to be a perfectly manicured hillside park. This is actually Forest Lawn Cemetery, where many celebrities are buried, including Bette Davis, Lucille Ball, Liberace, John Ritter, and the mother-daughter duo of Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. Michael Jackson’s funeral was held here, although he was interred in Forest Lawn’s Glendale site.

Burbank is also home to the Warner Bros television sound stage where the hugely popular “Ellen” TV show is filmed; The Garry Marshall Theater, a local theater company founded by the beloved director; one of the last Bob’s Big Boy drive-in restaurants; the Burbank Animal Shelter, where Benji the dog was discovered; a wonderful variety of parks, including one named after The Tonight Show’s long-time host, Johnny Carson – and speaking of The Tonight Show, former host Jay Leno can often be seen driving one of his many exotic or antique cars around the streets of Burbank.

Burbank is ideally located near many different freeways, making it more convenient to get to and from any direction of Los Angeles.  You want to go to Hollywood? Great! Pasadena? Easy! Sherman Oaks? OK! New York? No problem! Wait…New York? Yep, Burbank even has its own airport! The Bob Hope Airport is the largest privately-owned municipal airport in the United States.

Overall, this is a wonderful city and we would encourage anybody looking to relocate to consider beautiful Burbank!
