Comparative Market Analysis and determining the home value are two major pieces to begin a successful home transaction.

About Bay Village

Bay Village homes

This area of Boston is the smallest recognized neighborhood.  It’s population is about 1,312 and has 837 housing units hosted in brick buildings called rowhouses. This region was traditionally middle to lower class, however, in the 1990’s the Bay Village Neighborhood association started doing things to clean up the area, organizing club activities and held block parties.  Now it’s become more expensive and upscale.

This is interesting, the western part of Bay Village was apart of the body of water called, Back Bay. In the 1820s it was landfilled before the more extensive landfills of the adjacent Back Bay and South End.

Bay Village has been named different variations through it’s history, ie, Church Street District, South Cove and Kerry Village.

Edgar Allan Poe, yes, the famous writer, was actually born in at the edge of Bay Village.  The house he lived in at 62 Carver Street no longer exists and in fact, the street was renamed Charles Street South.  In 2009, the intersection of Charles and Boylston streets was named, “Edgar Allan Poe Square”.

An unfortunate event happened in Bay Village called the Cocoanut Grove fire.  It was November 1942 at the Cocoanut Grove nightclub in which 492 people lost their lives. Due to this tragedy, enforcement of stringent fire codes across the US happened right after to prevent this kind of thing to happen again. A plaque was placed in the village to memorialize those whom lost their lives.

Bay Village is scored to be the 4th most walkable neighborhoods in the City of Boston while Boston itself is ranked #3 in the nation. Biking, walking and transit are the most popular way to travel within the city that residents often forgo owning a car.

Living in Bay village would be very convenient as there are tons of shops, restaurants and varying neighborhoods to venture in.  Therefore, there is no shortage of things to do.
